*New * Living Spaces
Living Spaces provides grants to help people improve open spaces in their
neighbourhood and create valuable places for the whole community to enjoy.
It can help you create and improve a huge range of spaces: play areas;
community gardens; local parks; village greens; nature areas; kick-about
areas; ponds; courts and squares; city farms. As long as your space is open
to the public and near to where people live you could benefit from a grant
of up to £100,000.
A lot of people have good ideas but need a little help to nurture their
plans and let them take root. Living Spaces will provide that help. A
network of trained Living Spaces Enablers will be on hand across the country
to assess your application and help turn your ideas into reality.
They want to help as many people as we can create their own Living Spaces.
You can apply for a Living Spaces grant if your group wants to run a project
to improve an area of open space near to where you live and your group is a
not-for-profit neighbourhood group. You don't have to be a registered
charity.
Living Spaces grants can be used to support activities such as: improving
small local parks or parts of larger parks; creating or improving 'pocket
parks' and community gardens; creating or improving play areas or seating
areas; cleaning up neglected land in residential areas; restoring village
greens; carrying out small planting schemes on verges or on estates;
creating or improving nature areas or city farms; restoring ponds, pathways,
gateways or boundaries.
Grants can be used to pay for labour and materials or any other goods or
services you need to carry out your project.
You can apply to Living Spaces for any amount between £1,000 and
£100,000.For grants larger than £5,000 it will help your application if you
have some other contributions. For grants over £25,000 you must have other
contributions at least equal to the amount you are applying for. If you are
including money from another central Government programme in your other
contributions this amount and your Living Spaces grant together must not add
up to more than half of the total cost of your project.
To find out if your project is eligible and for more information about how
the scheme works download the Living Spaces guidance notes from their
website.
