Political parties have different ideas of how to meet these statutory requirements and different local priorities. The Borough of Charnwood is divided into 29 Wards with the residents of each ward electing 1, 2 or 3 Councillors to represent them. The political party/parties with the most Councillors form an Administration to run the Council and decide the policies they will pursue and how the local services will be provided. Councillors monitor services to ensure that they are delivered efficiently and effectively and are jointly responsible for gross expenditure of around £64.5m. Beat Officers provide community policing through partnership and problem-solving. They aim to be as visible as possible in the areas they serve. They are committed to providing reassurance to all members of the community, including residents, local businesses and organisations. Beat Officers target local crime, with a particular focus upon reducing anti-social behaviour and disorder. CSOs spend much of their time on patrol in communities and you should approach them with any questions or worries you have about anti-social behaviour or crime in your area.
