Click to hear Mrs Ray (nee Taylor), recorded in 1970.

This sound clip is from a recording made by Mr Hill's class at Bagworth school in 1970. Each child talked about a different aspect of the village, and the tape was exchanged with a school in London.

Mrs Ray: Playing space in Bagworth, Janice Taylor. In Bagworth there are three football pitches, two belong to the pit and the other belongs to the club. The club football pitch is used by our school for football matches and for practising. There is a netball pitch as well, and we girls use it for rounders, ‘fishes in the net’ etcetera. The institute: the institute is used for a good many things. Doctors on Monday and Thursdays, Womens’ Institute Tuesday nights, badminton on Wednesdays, guides and brownies Thursdays and youth clubs on Fridays. Wedding receptions and parties are usually held there. At the side of the institute is a recreation ground which has been used a lot but now is always empty because of the weather. The swings are from Wicksteads of Kettering. The colliery pitches: one of the colliery pitches is a full size pitch, it is 130 ft in length. The big pitch is used by Coalville (?) Athletics and Bagworth Men, the other pitch is used by the youth club boys.
