September is chosen as Older Person’s Month for Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland each year. A series of events aimed at ‘Listening to Older People’ will be taking place across the county throughout September. The launch takes place in Leicester on 26th August. Voluntary agencies, emergency services, health and local authorities will be joining forces to engage with older people in their own communities, providing information and advice on what services and activities are available, and listening to their views on services in their local areas. We applied to Leicestershire Youth Bank requesting funding of £14,600 from the Youth Opportunity Fund and £50,000 from the Youth Capital Fund. More » On the 24 March we received notification that they had received over 100 applications and that ours had been shortlisted and we were invited to present our application to a panel of judges from Leicestershire Youth Bank on 9 April 2010. The young people produced and practiced their presentation in the Council offices before the presentation date. Helen McNulty – Senior Youth Worker and Sue Coulson – Deputy Clerk to the Council transported the young people to Leicester to present their application. On the 15 April we were notified by Leicestershire Youth Bank that the application had proved successful in part, we were awarded £7,850 from the Youth Capital Fund for a youth shelter and £10,650 to fund three part time youth workers to open the Youth Drop-In Café on a further evening during the week. « Less Source: Posted: Tue, 06 Apr 2010 10:34am If you own or lease a retail outlet with a frontage in need of improvements, then you could be eligible for a grant under this initiative.
