» BrascoteThere is no evidence to suggest when the windmill was originally built. There is no mention of a windmill in the entry for Brascote in the Domesday survey. The earliest mention that can be found is in the trade directory for 1846. It was still in working order when it was demolished in 1912 but it had ceased working sometime between 1908 and 1912 when it was pulled down. It was demolished by a Mr. Scot of Market Bosworth who recycled the timbers. There is nothing left today of the windmill on the site. However, for many years the millers were also beersellers and the beerhouse is now a publlic house, taking its name from the windmill. For a list of millers, see Family History Sources: Domesday Book, Leicestershire, Phillimore, 1979 Last Updated Fri, 20 Jan, 2006. |
