Braunstone Walkie-Talkies' News

AUGUST 2007

We have talked recently about walks from Sainsburys and Aldi. Just to prove we are not biased we will now tell you about a walk starting from Asda.

Go to their car park as far from the store as possible - there is a footpath by the side of a stream (Lubbesthorpe Brook). Walk the footpath over the bridge into the field. You have just passed from the County into the City. Cross the field diagonally to the far corner and follow the path to the right.

You will see a white cottage in front of you but it is on the other side of the River Soar. That is Kings Lock cafe but you have to walk three sides of a square to get to it. Cross over the medieval pack horse bridge and turn right along the canal tow path. The cafe is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday 11am to 4pm and Sunday 11am - 5pm. Julie and Tony serve a variety of food including excellent cream scones. Some Sunday afternoons there is live music. We go on lots of walks in this area.

Last month forty of us visited the Guru Nanak Sikh Museum and Temple in Holy Bones, Leicester. We were made very welcome and treated to English and Indian food. All very enjoyable and informative.

Not a fly drive or a park-and-ride but a drive walk, that is what Steve and Beth Foley did with 27 others to the Burroughs at Ratby where there are the most gorgeous bluebell woods. After the walk there was a stopover at the Bull's Head in the village for a good bargain meal.

Other walks have been to the Lubbesthorpe fields and the Aylestone wildlife area.
