Action Deafness offers a range of services to promote independence, equality and opportunity among these communities. The charity Leicester and County Mission for Deaf People was established in 1897. More commonly known in recent years as the Centre for Deaf People, our working title was changed to Action Deafness in June 2006. The aim of Action Deafness is not to do things for the deaf community, but to empower them to access services, employment and information themselves. We work towards an inclusive society by offering, among other things, learning, communication and interpreting services as well as advocacy and mentoring. Leicestershire Together have worked on a joint project with the County Council's Valuing People Team to develop a search facility for venue hire across Leicestershire. An audit of facilities began in 2004, which we are pleased to say is now available in a fully accessible format online. Community Facilities Home Page - "Halls4Hire" The database currently has information on over 400 venues, which we hope to build on as the site becomes more established. The database can be searched in a number of ways, including by district, facility, postcode and town. There is a facility to add a new venue to the website, to leave feedback and also to ask a question. The site will be updated on an annual basis by the Policy Team at Leicestershire County Council.
