SmartWater

Burbage has commenced on a major extension of their SmartWater project, which is sponsored by Leicestershire Police and Burbage Parish Council, and is being rolled out in virtually every street in the parish, it points to the fact that Burbage is now better protected from the attention of criminals than ever before.
The programme to get village homes SmartWatered is in full flow and scores of families previously baffled by street signs in other parishes now know exactly what they signify.
So do criminals — and they don’t like it one little bit because they know it significantly increases the chances of their dishonest activities being uncovered.
SmartWater basically entails marking valuables with a unique forensic fingerprint making personal items far less attractive to thieves.
The solution comes in a small bottle and looks like ….. well water actually.
But a tiny dab of the invisible chemical leaves a ‘DNA’ identity, registered with police to owners, on any item of value to which it’s applied.
Burbage NW co-ordinators were introduced to the benefits of the high-tech deterrent at a launch in the autumn and have been explaining it to householders across the village.
At the launch meeting Inspector Martin Hall, commander of the Hinckley Local Policing Unit, described SmartWater as one of the most valuable modern aids to fighting burglary crime. The ‘fingerprint’ makes other property-marking systems redundant and gives forensic teams a means of instant and total traceability. In contested criminal cases it has a 100 per cent success rate. SmartWater is on sale at the Burbage Police Office behind the library on the 1st Saturday of every month Farmers Market Day from 10am to 2pm

Terrorism

Everyone who lives, works or visits Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland has a role to play in making it difficult for terrorists to operate.

Leicestershire Constabulary, together with other police forces in the East Midlands, have launched a publicity campaign to give people the confidence to trust their instincts and report anything suspicious. This campaign is not a response to any specific threat but encourages us to remain alert and vigilant at all times.

Neighbourhood Watch Groups can help by being aware of what is happening around them. Terrorists need places to live and to store equipment and materials. Terrorists need people to help them and may need transport in order for them to carry out their plans. Terrorists need to raise money and may use fraudulent transactions to help fund their activities. Posters are being displayed in open spaces and distributed to relevant organisations encouraging the public to trust their instincts and use the confidential anti-terrorist hotline on 0800 789321 with any suspicions.

We understand that people may have reservations about contacting the police because they are concerned that their suspicions may turn out to be unfounded. However you are urged to trust your instincts. If you have any suspicions at all, please call. The consequences of not making that call could be unthinkable.

It is communities that defeat terrorism. Neighbourhood Watch has a vital role to play in helping to keep everyone safe.
