Side 1
Here lyeth the bodys of two aged 24 and 22/ THOMAS DYER schoolmaster of this place/ For pious parts and virtue two /We hope his souls at rest/ And WILLIAM SIMKINS two/ These flowers of youth were nipped away/ By accident as we may say/ Death met them in the deep/And caused us to weep/ And here they lie like two that are asleep./ Water is powerful, by them it shows/Venture not where you not knows./ Two brothers like within they lie together liv’d/ All you that pass by take care in time prepare to die./ On June the 20th this accident was done/ In one thousand seven hundred and twenty one.
Here you can see we are born to die/When God sees good we cannot put it by
Side 2
Jesus mind God’s word let his book be our guide/Then death will be a friend to us we need not be surprised/ Our life is like a candel or a pen that writeth fast/ Or a flower that faeds or blosoms that I ….. cast / Our glass runs on our bodys from earth came/ And to earth they must return againe./When death to us apeirs it makes us look full …/When the dart strikes to the hart the Soul and Body /Part full soon then we are gone/Farewell my acquaintance and my friends/Minde your time think of youre end/ As they are gone for want of roome …..adore 1721
