Rural communities must ensure they can play a role in the economy of the future or they face becoming "dormitories for the elderly".
That is the warning from the chairman of a group aimed at helping the Leicestershire countryside thrive.
Councillor Lesley Pendleton, from Leicestershire Rural Partnership, was speaking after a recent Government-commissioned report warned young people were being driven from rural areas by a lack of jobs and affordable housing.
The report calls for loosening of planning rules, better transport links and broadband access.

The more details you can provide the better. Obviously, we need the person’s name and the VRM (Number) of the vehicle they are driving but the following details would also be most helpful:

  1. Make/model and colour of vehicle
  2. Home address of driver
  3. Date of Birth or Age of Driver
  4. Any regular journeys they make – to work, etc – and times of journeys.

Please help the Roads Policing Unit to keep Leicestershire’s roads safe for all our sakes. « Less

Above are just a few of the very positive comments received from delegates and stallholders following the RCC Annual Rural Action seminar held at County Hall Leicester on the evening of March 4th.

Over 90 delegates, including the Lord Lieutenants of Leicestershire & Rutland, heard speakers tackling the subjects of affordable housing, rural business grants, the RCC community buildings service, the new RCC climate change project, personalisation of adult social care, Quality Parish Councils and outcomes from Community – led plans in Ullesthorpe and Bagworth and Thornton. Presentations will be available for viewing on the RCC website www.ruralcc.org.uk

A range of service providers displayed information, including, Vista a charity providing services for the blind and partially sighted, Leicestershirevillages.com, providing websites for villages in Leicestershire & Rutland, affordable housing, money advice, Leicestershire County Council services including waste management, recycling, streetlights, North West Leicestershire Green Footprints Challenge.
