Summary

We did something with the Village Appraisal results, and we had 4 major areas - Donington the Place - looking at improving the look of, and amenities in, the village; Transport improvements - aiming for better transport links; Sport and Leisure improvements - researching the provision of a Leisure pool and leisure options for the younger generation; and Communications - perhaps a Community Hall / One Stop shop that provides a meeting place for everyone, young and old!

Let's light up Castle Donington!

The sight of thousands of bulbs!!

That's right, as part of the Castle Donington Environmental Steering Group, we have helped provide the conduit for various forms of assistance, and so plant tens of thousands of bulbs on the banks of the approach roads to the village.

They were planted in November 2003, and again in October 2004. Look out for the banks of colour on the entrances to the village in Spring 2006!

CD ESG puts roots on the roundabouts!

The Castle Donington Village Appraisal Group has helped the Environmental Steering Group (formed by our County Councillor, and involving interests from the County Council,Rural Community Council, Parish Council, Village Appraisal Group and other parties) to find funding to plant 3 roundabouts on the entrances to Castle Donington.

Funding was supplied by the County Council, East Midlands Airport, Wilson Bowden, and an LCC Shire Grant.

The Environmental Steering Group's next targets are in supporting the Parish Plan, the construction of a Pinfold Gardens Village Sign, ensuring maintenance of the gravestones in our churchyard, replacement of a village entrance sign and further sponsorship of roundabouts.

Leisure Group going for the swim !

The Village Appraisal Group was determined that the people of Castle Donington should be listened to.......

Castle Donington doesn't want a huge multi-million pound swimming pool, but we do need a simple Leisure Pool.

The Group has found out that this could be built from scratch for under £400,000. This is a big target to go for - not in funding terms, but in changing attitudes, and it can only happen with your involvement.

How many schools in Leicester have to travel half an hour by bus to get to their local pool for a mandatory part of the school curriculum?

Perhaps you will reaffirm your previous deep felt feelings in the Parish Plan?
