"We Heard it Through The Grapevine..."

The Grapevine is a brand new online discussion forums aimed at older and disabled adults, their family, friends and carers, but it can be used by anyone – from anywhere in the world!

Users can log-on to discuss topics including news, sport, the arts or share jokes, poetry and recipes.
Visitors to the site can also talk about what it’s like to be getting older, to live with a disability and to care for others.

You can also send a message to David Sprason, our Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care. You could give feedback about your care or make suggestions to help us continue to improve our service.

The Grapevine is run by Leicestershire CareOnLine (a team at Leicestershire County Council) which uses the internet to help reduce isolation and improve the quality of life for older and disabled people and carers.

For questions or help using the site, please e-mail: grapevine@leics.gov.uk or call 0116 305 7538.

A to B Community Transport

Community and voluntary transport schemes supplement the public transport network by offering services tailored to the needs of people who may have difficulty in using - or are unable to use - ordinary buses and trains to undertake journeys others normally take for granted.

Most services operate on an as and when required basis and have to be booked in advance. They are there to help the community and are not operated for profit, though there will be a charge for using the service.

Auction of Promises

Bradgate Lions Club supporting ( Derbyshire, Leicestershire & Rutland Air Ambulance)
The Derbyshire, Leicestershire & Rutland Air Ambulance (DLRAA) will be launched in April 2008 to provide an emergency medical service for the East Midlands. Prior to this, the region had relied on older, slower aircraft with limited space for onboard patient treatment. The new service will move the emphasis from transporting casualties to hospital, to recognising the need to get Doctors and paramedics to the scene of incidents as quickly as possible, providing lifesaving treatment and medication at the scene and en-route to hospital. The new Augusta 109 helicopter can be airborne within 45 seconds of the crew receiving a call, will be quicker, bigger and can be operated for longer flying hours. From its base it will take just five minutes to reach Leicester Royal Infirmary and 14 minutes to get to Derbyshire Royal Infirmary.
The Derbyshire, Leicestershire & Rutland Air Ambulance (DLRAA) will be funded entirely by voluntary donations. They will receive no assistance from Government or the National Lottery. So it will depend on a major fund-raising boost to buy it and keep it in the air. Fundraisers must raise £300,000 in five months and then £1.5m each year. Help Bradgate Lions Club to help them, you never know who will need it next.

Award Winning River Nene Organic Vegbox home delivery scheme

James and Ruth supply the River Nene Organic Veg boxes in your area. We provide a range of veg boxes from £7.90 - £14.95 The contents change weekly and are seasonal. We look after you from beginning to end and are your direct link to the farms, with a personal touch. We work as part of a co operative group to look after customers for the farms in the area we live. The Castor farm is just 30 miles from Melton Mowbray so the produce is local. Orders can be taken on-line, by email or phone which ever you are more comfortable with. We aim to provide quality produce from the River Nene farms where 75 percent of the produce in the boxes is grown. This allows us to know about the produce, as we order the seed, grow it to maturity, and aim to bring it to your door the day after picking. We do not have a market stall for this reason. We prefer the produce to continue in the ground or on the plant growing till harvest and then as quickly as possible out to the customer. As much as possible when sourcing produce from outside the farm - to enable variety - we look first to other organic producers in the East Midlands, and then further afield. Produce when brought in from Europe or further is never air freighted.
Telephone 01664 823454 or 0845 786868 for more information or to order. If you don't have Internet access we can telephone you with the box contents.
During the summer months we provide farm tours, places need to be booked but are free of charge.See the website for details
