![]() June 2009 A dramatic multimedia exhibition opens this week on Thursday 4th June at Snibston Discovery Museum, Community Gallery and will be showing until Tuesday 30 June. Anne Frank ( + you ) officially launches on Monday 8th June at 12 noon with the guest appearance of Gillian Walnes, Executive Director of the Anne Frank Trust UK and Professor Martin Stern, a Holocaust survivor. Visitors will be invited to sign the Anne Frank Declaration to pledge support to the victims of persecution and to take away their own card and view the free exhibition. More » Anne Frank is a name we are all familiar with and her diary has inspired millions the world over. It has been translated into 67 different languages and is now one of the most widely-read books in the world. This international exhibition from the Anne Frank Trust UK, has been created by a team including experts from the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam and the Oscar winning film director John Blair. The heart and soul of the Anne Frank ( + you ) exhibition is the spirit of Anne Frank: her words, wisdom and values. It explores the Holocaust and then presents contemporary issues, including racism in football, the right to wear religious symbols, bullying and the plight of child soldiers, achieved through interviews with British teenagers and photographs. The exhibition at Snibston Discovery Museum is probably quite unlike any you will ever have seen before. What makes it unique is the history of the Holocaust set within the context of the life and death of Anne Frank. It then powerfully confronts social issues in modern Britain. Notes to editors: The Anne Frank Trust UK is the British partner organisation of the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam. Our mission is to draw on the power of Anne Frank's life and diary to challenge prejudice and reduce hatred, encouraging people to embrace positive attitudes, responsibility and respect for others. ![]() Snibston looks for nominations for the Anne Frank Awards 2009. To coincide with the Anne Frank ( + you ) exhibition showing at Snibston Discovery Museum. The Anne Frank Awards is looking for nominations for 2009. It is a highly regarded education and recognition programme aimed at celebrating actions that echo the spirit of Anne Frank. Do you know someone who has made a difference? If you do know someone whose respect, principles and sense of responsibility have changed lives for the better, Snibston Discovery museum and the Anne Frank Trust would like to know about them. So, to find out more or if YOU know a young person, youth group or educator who has made a really positive difference to other peoples' lives, you should nominate them for an Anne Frank Award. Head to www.annefrankawards.org.uk and NOMINATE now! By celebrating the positive, inspiring actions of ordinary people we can work to create a more cohesive, constructive society. Award winners will come together for a ceremony and reception in central London in the summer of 2009. Notes to editor The new free teaching resource, How Great Can You Be?, to be launched very soon, is designed for the brand new Citizenship curriculum at Key Stages 3 and 4 and will be downloadable from the dedicated awards website. The Anne Frank Awards originally established in 2003 by The Anne Frank Trust UK, the sister organisation of the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam, is a highly regarded education and recognition programme that seeks to recognise young people and educators who have shown great personal strength, moral courage, and determination to stand up for what is right. We seek to acknowledge and celebrate people who not only believe in Anne Frank’s inspirational words “it only takes a moment to start to improve the world”, but who also put them into action. With so much adverse publicity about gun and knife crimes and teenage violence, we are looking for the often unsung heroes who are working towards a better future, trying to change attitudes and challenge prejudice and racism. We believe that those who speak out, go out of their way for others, and stick out their necks for the common good should be identified and held up as an example to us all. Those who have really made a difference to others around them. Those who share the spirit that Anne demonstrated and the values she believed in. Those who in a moment or moments of true inspiration, kindness and compassion literally acted ‘Frankly’. If you believe a young person or educator that you know has acted ‘Frankly’ and made a notable difference to other people’s lives, you should nominate them for an Anne Frank Award. We also accept nominations for groups of young people who have acted together to do something that has made a real difference to their school, community or society in general. « Less
