Mr Swinfen: I can remember the flood, 1932, May, when it rained for three, four days and the club field became water logged, and there’s a house down there where the Rowbothams have lived recently. My great grandmother was rescued out the bedroom window in a boat and taken over the old hedge up to where Mrs Bollad [?] used to live, who used to, she used to look after me as a kiddy while my mother was in the shop, I can remember that very well.

Interviewer: Was there much damage done in Croft?

Mr Swinfen: Well I can’t remember the damage but the club field was an old skating rink years ago and it was partly dammed and there was only a certain amount of water could come by and when the floods came it used to back up, and back up into these old houses and the club. I think it reached 4’ 6” in the old working men’s club at the time, which was over the billiard table, and the bar and everywhere was just awash.
