United Benefice Service at Peckleton
United Benefice Service at Peckleton

Sunday, September 19th 2010 - No Services in St. Martin's, Desford

At their 10:30am Service, St. Mary Magdalene Church, Peckleton will welcome Bishop Christopher J Boyle who is the Assistant Bishop of the Leicester Diocese.

Bishop Christopher J Boyle was born and grew up in Birmingham. He attended Kings College London and was ordained deacon in 1976. He worked in the diocese of Birmingham from 1976 to 2001. His ministry there included as Bishop’s Chaplain, Parish Priest, Area Dean, and Canon of the Cathedral. In 2000 Bishop Christopher was elected Bishop of Northern Malawi, where he as served for the past eight years. More »

Bishop Christopher is unmarried and will bring his many pastoral, spiritual and theological gifts to the Diocese.

Bishop Christopher says “I’m delighted to return to the Midlands to join Bishop Tim in the Diocese of Leicester. I’m looking forward to sharing in his ministry and getting to know the people and places of which I’ve heard so much. The contrast with Malawi could hardly be greater, but it’s a wonderful opportunity to support and encourage the clergy and to be part of strengthening the spiritual life of the Diocese.

Bishop Christopher’s duties will include confirmation, consecrations, ministerial reviews, civic functions as necessary, as well as teaching and preaching throughout the Diocese. « Less

Special service for animals at St Martins

If you own a pet, or just love animals, please come along to St Martin’s Church on Sunday 3rd October at 3.00pm.

To celebrate the Church of England’s “Animal Welfare Sunday” we will be holding a service to give thanks for the joy that animals can bring.

We would love you to bring your pets with you: dogs on leads, cats and other pets safe and secure in cages please. We are fortunate to have a speaker from Leicester Animal Aid, based in Huncote, and refreshments (and Bonios) will be available after the service. More »

Please tell your friends and neighbours: everyone is welcome whether or not you have a pet. Maybe this will become an annual event in the village!

If you have any questions please call Jane Harwood on 01455 824014. « Less
