"Airport Parking" - Group to Decide on Action

About 30 people attended the recent Public Meeting at Diseworth. A full discussion considered all the known options. It was clear that some positive action was necessary and, through the Parish Council, a Group comprising local people is to be established so that the possibilities can be considered in detail and any decisions carried through. To contribute to this Group, please contact the Chairman or Clerk (below) to express your interest and we will keep in touch.

Airport Runway Extension

"Third longest runway in UK after Gatwick and Heathrow"

The Council's Planning Group met on 21st August and responded to the latest application for runway extensions at the Airport. It was decided to object to the proposals. It was clear that the latest version of the Environmental Statement submitted was grossly under-stating the impact which the extended runway would have - most of which would be apparent during the night. Assessments of the impact on inevitable future infrastructure developments to allow all-comers to use the airport (and which the operators would find difficult to resist) both within and outside the airport boundary had not been addressed. The impact of the resulting increased traffic to and from the site had been dismissed as insignificant. The Council's full response is now available to view here within the agenda for the 4th September meeting.

Affordable housing ... positive survey results for both villages ... we go ahead!

At the meeting of the Council on 7th August the Council received the Reports of the Rural Housing Enabler. These clearly indicated that there was sufficient positive demand for the type of affordable housing being offered to enable the scheme to proceed - one in each village. To enable the process of achieving this to begin (and it could take two years at best), the Council formally decided to support the process. # As we get news of progress, we'll keep you informed here. Currently, active steps are being taken with Planners to set out the strategy for deciding where the housing could be located in each village.

ON OCTOBER'S AGENDA

Topics considered at the meeting on 2nd October were:
# Airport Parking: There was the public meeting at 7pm. Please see above and other local publicity about a Group of residents to be formed to take this matter forward.
# The annual play areas safety inspection report a quotation for maintenance work is awaited.
# The Association of Airport Related Authorities had its AGM on 1st Oct. There seems to be limited interest in keeping this group going.
# A 20mph School zone is being sought for Long Whatton and advice that the school itself needs to take the initiative is to be given.
# Donington Park is now submitting plans for major developments anticipating the coming of the Grand Prix. We are consulted as the 'neighbouring parish' and expect to see an Environmental Impact Statement to assess the impact on local roads.
# All the Planning consultations since the last meeting will either be reported on or dealt with. Any decisions taken by the planning authorities will be reported.
... and more - the full agenda and the minutes of the previous meeting can be viewed (usually by the Friday before the meeting) by clicking on Minutes Archive and downloading them. Click on Meetings Calendar for details of future meetings.
