Scarecrow Festival 2008The Diseworth Scarecrow Festival and Open Gardens weekend was held on the 14th and 15th of June 2008. The village population was swelled by a vast array of highly inventive and decorative scarecrows, ranging from the sweet to the downright scary ! In particular, the recent SpeedWatch campaign obviously caught the imagination, as there were scarecrow patrols with radar guns all over the village. In addition, a number of village gardens were open to the public, and these showed the depth and range of horticultural skill in the village. Teas and plant sales ensured that visitors were sent away full and with some inspiration for their own gardens. A total of some £1900 was raised for Church funds - well done to all who made a scarecrow, opened their garden, or helped with the event. Here is a selection of the scarecrows - there were just too many to include them all !
