Rectory Ramblings…

‘Without a vision the people perish.’ It is a well-known fact that successful businesses are already planning their future strategy even whilst their current plans are still in the ascendancy. There’s no let up for those seeking success. Whilst I am not a person who is at home in the world of high-powered, finance-driven, success-orientated strategy, throughout my ministry in the church I have learnt that the church needs to know what it is about, to have a vision, and to plan. During my two months in this benefice many good proposals have been put to me as to what we could be doing in our churches, for our local communities. I am all for this. But it seems to me that we need to have co-ordinated thinking as to how we go about these things, in order to maximise the use of our person-power, time and talent resources.

To this end the church councils have backed an idea of a ‘Six Months On…’ session on the morning of Sunday 2nd November. This will replace our usual services on that morning and will enable us all, in our six churches and villages, and to explore and reflect together where we would like to see ourselves in a few years time, and how we can achieve that – what our strategy might be. The session will take place at St Peter’s, Horninghold (starting time to be announced), and will be led by a facilitator who will help us share and frame ideas. The session will conclude with a Eucharist in time to get home for lunch.

People have so many good ideas for these churches. I hope this morning will enable us to share and explore those ideas with others and to reflect on how we realistically make them happen as we fine-tune our priorities in the context of prayerful attention.

Yours sincerely

Nicky
