» FleckneyThe Bread Van StoryA brief history of the bread vanThe vehicle was first used to deliver bread and confectionery around the village from the bakery at the Co-op in Stores Lane which was then known as the Fleckney Industrial and Provident Society. It was here at the end of its working life in the late 1950s that it was moved to a garden off Kilby Rd Fleckney where it served as a pigeon loft for several decades, falling into a state of general disrepair and decay. It was not until building work was proposed on the site that Fleckney and Saddington Historical Society stepped in to mount a possible rescue and purchase the vehicle for a nominal sum. The Bread Van was purchased by the Fleckney and Saddington Historical Society from Mr. Barry Foster of Kilby Road Fleckney. Last Updated Sun, 13 May, 2007. |
