Greetings from Australia. I have recently acquired a survey and valuation for the two above mentioned farms in your village. The survey was done in 1831 when both farms were owned by Andrew Lovering Sarel, and tenanted by John Sykes and Thomas Bird respectively. Do these farms still exist with these names? The Street Farm is described as being "adjacent to the Leicester and Uppingham Turnpike roads, between 6 and 8 miles from leicester". Artist John Glover, 1767-1849, was born on a farm in the parish, and became a celebrated Australian Colonial artist, dying in Tasmania.Could this have been his family farm at one time? Any information much appreciated, or leads to people who might have information! Best wishes to all, Gordon Hughes.
