This funding will be allocated in a new, participatory way of making decisions about funding, with residents and community groups making spending proposals and voting on them. The Government's decision has been welcomed by the County Council who had carried out extensive investigations and concluded that Pennbury was an unsuitable location for an eco-town. Grave doubts had been raised by the authority about Pennbury’s employment proposals as well as a very real concern that the proposed transport strategy would not work. More » Leader of the County Council, David Parsons, said: “I’m delighted that the Government has taken on board the views expressed by the County Council – views which had been very much endorsed by local residents. Our detailed work showed that an eco-town was simply not needed at Pennbury.
