The Kirby Muxloe Local History Group's aims are to establish a more detailed and wider understanding of the history of Kirby Muxloe, in terms of the people who live, or have lived, here, events that have taken place, the buildings and landscape, both past and present, as well as the ways in which all forms of industry have developed.
Membership of the Group is open to all those interested and it is planned that 6 meetings will be held each year.
If you would like more information about the Group, please send an e-mail to: localhistorygroup@fsmail.net, or call Janet Carpenter (239 2913).
Some information about plans for future meetings and meetings that have taken place in the past is given below.
The History Group provides transcripts of the talks etc. given at our meetings but cannot accept any responsibility for the accuracy of either these transcripts or the information provided by our guest speakers.
Group Publications
A booklet 'The Most Bombed Village in England', which has been researched and written by Judith Upton, has been published by the Group.
Further copies are now available, at a cost of £3.00 each, from the library.
Exploring Family History Courses
Members and guests may remember that in 2008/2009 the Group arranged for Mick Rawle to run a course for those interested in exploring family history.
Whilst there has not been sufficient interest to enable any further courses to be run in the village, Mick Rawle, a professional Genealogist since 1996 and a lifetime member of the Leicestershire & Rutland Family History Society (LRFHS), runs similar courses on a regular basis, at the LRFHS Centre in Leicester.
The link to his web site below will give details of planned courses.
