The Census returns for Long Whatton

These transcriptions were carried out by one of our members, Mr Keith Murphy. Although every effort has been made to ensure its accuracy, errors may occur. It is therefore desirable to check the original census returns to verify the information.
These can usually be viewed at local library study centres. However, for those further afield, these can now be viewed on the Internet. These sites normally require a subscription, or a payment for a search. The 1881 census at www.familysearch.org is a free source as are others.
You should be aware that all printed indexes have been transcribed from hand written returns. These can at times be difficult to decipher.
Spellings, birthplaces and ages are sometimes not consistent between the subsequent census returns.
In spite of this, they remain a most valuable source of family history information.

Although every effort has been made to ensure accuracy, it is desirable to to check the original records to verify the information.
