February 2008 - Wait!

Ever waited for a train and watched its progress (or lack of it) on the information board, when the “Expected At” time recedes 2 minutes every minute? We were delayed returning from a holiday once and had to spend 8 hours in a rather unexciting airport in Tunisia. Waiting with two younger children was not fun for at time.

Well our verse for the year is “Wait for the Lord, Be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord” – Psalm 27:14. It says “wait” twice – great! But I don’t think this kind of waiting is quite like the mind numbingly boring time spent in an airport wondering if the plane will ever come (or go). It’s more of an active waiting – asking God what the plan is – but not dashing off before we know it. So for the first few months of the year we are having a prayer meeting on the first Sunday, instead of a service, and trying to give God space to speak into our lives. Unlike the train he is to be “Expected At – Any moment”.
