Long Whatton History SocietyThe Long Whatton History Society consists of a small group of people who wish to investigate the history of the village and collect and preserve as many photographs, records and memories as possible. We have collected a wide range of photographs and newspaper cuttings some dating back over 100 years. Monumental inscriptions of both the Parish and Baptist graveyards have been recorded, together with census records of the village. Complete transcriptions have been deposited with the Leicester Records Office and the Leicester and Rutland Family History Society The Society meets every second Thursday of the month at the Long Whatton Methodist Chapel Meeting Room at 7.30pm. The meetings are very informal and anyone who has an interest in the village history is welcome. We are also interested in copying any old photographs and documents for our archives. If you would like to attend one of our meetings please contact us by email to ensure the meeting has not been cancelled for any reason. In 2003, we published a book entitled:-Long Whatton Memories of Times Past. This can be purchased, from us, for £8.00 plus postage, or at bookshops in Loughborough and at Long Whatton Post Office.
