LW News Article - May 2007Fly TippingFly Tipping According to the Loughborough Echo the council spent £37,500 removing illegally dumped rubbish from our streets and country lanes. It’s disappointing and frustrating that so much of our council tax bill goes towards cleaning up after the minority who don’t dispose of their rubbish appropriately. It reminds me of a book I read where the author complained that when he hired a skip his neighbours had filled it overnight with their rubbish. Although a prayerful man he was incensed and complained to God about the “sinners” who lived around him who had used his skip, which he had paid for, to get rid of their junk. It was at that point that God reminded him that he had sent Jesus, at great cost, to carry away the junk in his life. Considering the cost of Good Friday the infringement of his skip by his neighbours was put into perspective, almost modern day parable. This month our focus as a church is to do something positive in the community. One idea is to go on a litter pick and clear away some local rubbish. If you see us tidying up around the village, then perhaps it will bring to mind the spiritual tidy-up that God has on offer for each of us – we just have to ask him.
