Marriages, All Saints Parish Church, Long Whatton
1754 - 1940

These Marriages were transcribed by Mr Keith Murphy.

Because of the amount of information these records contain, the records have been broken down into several sections:-

A Grooms' Index, giving the date of the marriage, groom's names and bride's names.

A Brides' Index with the same information as above.

Further details of the Groom,(in date order) giving:-
Age, Bachelor or Widower, Profession or Occupation, Residence, Father's Name and Profession or Occupation.

Further Details Of the Bride, (in date order) giving similar information as above.

Details,(in date order) giving details as to whether the marriage was sanctioned by reading of Banns, Licence or Certificate, (B/L/C) Witnesses and Comments.

Note
Banns comes from the old English word to summon and the marriage banns were read out for 3 consecutive Sundays before the Marriage could be blessed and allowed anyone to raise any legal impediment.
A Certificate was required if one of the parties was from a different Parish and was issued by the non performing vicar.
A Licence was introduced to allow a marriage in a shorter period on payment of a fee. a sworn declaration was required, that there was no legal impediment to the marriage. It was issued, usually by an Archbishop, Bishop or Archdeacon
