Local History Catalogue, Indexes, Books & Pamphlets

Card catalogue

The local history card catalogue holds references to books or articles on subjects which might interest you. There are 2 card catalogues, namely old and new. We are currently digitising these catalogues.

New Catalogue

This card catalogue consists of all index material from 1985 on wards which can be searched by:

Subject
Name index arranged alphabetically by surname.
A business index of local firms and shops.
Author/title index on all books and pamphlets added to stock since 1985

Use the above indexes to locate the information held in the local history room. For example if you are looking for a local newspaper article on the Brush Works, then look up Brush in the subject index, and the card will give you the title of the newspaper, date of issue and page number along with brief description of the article.

Old Catalogue

The old index card catalogue consists of all local history indexed up to 1985. It is not a comprehensive index and users are advised to check both indexes. For example if you are interested in Great Central Railway then look in both indexes to ensure that you have explored all the information we hold on the subject.

The old card catalogue contain the same type of information as the new card catalogue except that it is arranged in one alphabetical sequence.

Books & Pamphlets

Pamplets

The far end wall of the local history room holds a large collection of books and pamphlets for Leicester, Leicestershire and the East Midlands followed by town and village boxes, arranged alphabetical.

Books about Loughborough are located on the middle shelving opposite the back wall as well as books on Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.
