Whitehouse

The White House used to be a farm and was at one time thatched. It has an interesting yellow stone wall which probably used to be part of another property.

Piper's Piece the exotic bird breeders, is situated on Main Street. It houses one of the best collections of parrots, macaws and cockatoos in the country and includes the scarlet macaw and african grey parrot.

The exotic bird breeders business was started over fifteen years ago by Roger and Suzanne Buckland. From just a few aviaries there are now around ninety, some are for the exotic birds for sale, including parrots, cockatoos, macaws and many more.

Suzanne hand feeds the baby exotic birds from the day they hatch and so they are wonderfully tame for their new owners as soon as they collect them. African Grey parrots and the many Amazon parrots are weaned and ready to go to their new homes at twelve weeks of age, and the large macaws and cockatoos take a little longer. Many of the young birds are talking long before the hand feeding is finished and a chorus of 'hellos' often greets one on entering the nursery.
