The House That Jack Built

Click on the picture to find out about B&B at Gore Lodge.

The House That Jack Built (Gore Lodge)- an interesting property that provides B&B accommodation. Gore Lodge is the original name for this 18th Century Hunting Box named by Benedict John Gore a previous owner. Benedict was the nephew of Jack 'Cherry' Angel (so called because he drove around in a cherry coloured Phaeton Carriage), he resided at The Tower House which is to be found at the other end of the village. Jack and Benedict were both great racing men and at one of the races a great wager was placed. The result was a victory for Benedict Gore's horse and the unfortunate Jack was faced with a forfeit of paying for the entire renovations of Gore Lodge. On completion a great dinner party was held and the dinner guests came up with the new name for the house - The House That Jack Built.
