Traffic Survey by Ridgeway Primary 2006Should the high street be closed to trafic?![]() Our ProjectAs part of our Geography project “Should the High Street be Closed to Traffic, we visited Market Harborough town centre to conduct a traffic survey, find signs of pollution and ask shop keepers and shoppers for their opinions. Rhys Staff Y6 pupils of Ridgeway Primary School, Market Harborough Pollution![]() Many people think that there is no pollution in Market Harbough, however, we disagree. In fact we would argue that there is a problem everywhere in our town. Pollution is very dangerous poison and if you breathe it over a long period of time you may DIE! In the short term pollution causes asthma. A solution to this terrible problem is to stop traffic, which will end the pollution! Parking Problems![]() The parking in this town is horrendous, because people park on double yellow lines and block pedestrians from crossing the zebra crossing. However, is this enough to ban traffic? In my opinion yes! Although the best transport to get into town is car (especially because many people live far away), the risk is far too great to take. In addition parking in Market Harborough is very difficult as we all know, therefore it surely makes sense to leave the car at home. Local Businesses![]() Local businesses think that if there is a ban on traffic it will affect their trade. But banning cars in the town will encourage tourists to visit. By more tourists coming to Harborough and seeing the beautiful clean buildings and traffic free lanes, surely trade will boom! What we think![]() Although there is pollution and poorly parked cars in Market Harborough, it is not too late to turn the town around. By banning cars and encouraging public transport, bicycles and more people walking, we will not only be a fit town, but a more beautiful place to be. I hope you agree and think before you drive!
