Why not combine the two and enter Bardon Aggregates’ new photography competition, ‘Leicestershire Through a Lens.’ ‘Leicestershire Through a Lens’ is an open photography competition aimed at capturing the very essence of Leicester and Leicestershire life. The competition is open to all residents within the area. Simon Taylor, regional director, Bardon Aggregates commented, “Leicestershire is a great place to live and work and, as a local company, we wanted to give residents the opportunity to express what the county means to them. ‘Leicestershire Through a Lens’ will hopefully become the ideal forum for people to do this through their own photography and we are looking forward to seeing which aspects of Leicestershire life residents hold dear to them.” More » Entries can be pictures of anything that inspires the photographer, ideally representing some aspect of Leicestershire life, whether that be people, local landmarks or local events. The competition will run seasonally, encompassing the following rounds, Autumn (October – December 2008), Winter (January – March 2009), Spring (April – June 2009) and finally Summer, which will run from July until September 2009. There are three age categories for entrants, 11 years and under, 12-18 years and 19 years and older. A shortlist of entries will be selected by a judging panel consisting of Councillor Mrs Manjula Sood (Lord Mayor of Leicester), Baroness Jennifer Gretton (Lord Lieutenant of Leicestershire), Jason Senior (Picture Editor, Leicester Mercury) and Simon Taylor of Bardon Aggregates. The judges will then choose one winner and one runner-up from each age category, each receiving £200 and £50 of photography vouchers respectively. These vouchers can then be redeemed in store to purchase camera equipment or software. There is also an incentive for local schools to encourage their students to enter. £200 worth of photography vouchers will be awarded to schools should their student go on to win their age category. All shortlisted entries will be exhibited at various locations around the county, details of which can be found online at www.leicestershirethroughalens.co.uk. The 12 winning entries at the end of the competition will be included in a special 2010 ‘Leicestershire Through a Lens’ Calendar, which will then be distributed at the end of 2009 to local organisations for their own fundraising purposes. The competition is free to enter and further details, including terms and conditions, can be found online at www.leicestershirethroughalens.co.uk.
