All the older people who I was meeting were Polish speaking, spoke very little English if any. I’d just come out of the army. I learnt French at school. I had no idea of Polish. Within a very short time I went round with my uncle for a week and then I was on my own but in a very short time I’d learnt a fair bit of Polish. I’d learnt everything on the van in Polish. Now the one thing that I did learn was how to give change in Polish. Now I never did it in English, I can’t do it in English, I never could do it in English but I learnt to do it in Polish quite fluently and as I proved to the other gentleman, George, here, I can still count in it.
