The Inns of Newbold Verdon There are two public houses in Newbold Verdon, the Swan and the Jubilee Inn. For most of the time during the last two hundred years, at any given time, there have been two public houses in Newbold Verdon and at least two beer houses, sometimes more. Beer houses needed to be licensed but they often had no names. Sometimes a previously un-named beer house appears with a name and occasionally becomes a recognised public house. The Engine seems to have begun as a beer house. The Jubilee came into existence at the end of the nineteenth century but there are only spasmodic references in the trade directories up to 1922 and after that year there were no more. The George and Dragon was in existence for most of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries and possibly longer, although it is not there today. Today there are only the White Swan and the Jubilee Inn.
