How Newton Harcourt got its Name![]() Newton Harcourt Church Newton Harcourt was so called from the Harcourts, some time lords of it. It is a hamlet of the parish of Wistow, and is bounded by Wistow, Kilby, Great Wigston and a small part of Oadby and Great Glen. The spelling was originally Newetone and in 1240 the village was, by Saher de Quincy, earl of Winchester, given in marriage with Arabell his daughter to Sir Richard de Harcourt, knight and in the testa de Nevill, Newton is described as containing eight ploughlands of the fee of Harcourt.
