Using the emoticons and the URL and Img buttons

1. You can use the emoticons to add smiley faces to your posts, while the URL button allows you to add a link to another part of the website or to another website entirely. The Img button allows you to add an image to your post.

2. We have typed a message so we are going to add a smiley face by clicking on one of the emoticon faces (see across).

3. Although you won't see the image yet you should see the shortcut, which is something like :) depending on what face you chose.

4. We are now going to add a web address to our post by clicking on the URL button.

8. You will then see your link added to your post in the following way. Don't worry it will look much neater once it has been saved!

9. We will now add an image to our post as well by clicking on the Img button.

10. You should see another prompt box (as below).

11. This box is asking for the URL or web address of the image that you would like to add. You can only add an image to your post that has a web address so if you would like to add an image that you have taken yourself, simply add it to the Picture Gallery and you can link to it from here. First of all find an image, we are using an example from Fleckney.

12. Now that we have found an image we need to find its web location. This is easy enough to do by moving your mouse arrow over the image and clicking the right mouse button. This will give you an option box as below. Click on the Properties option.

13. You should now see an information box that gives you the information that you need to add your image to your post. Simply highlight the Address (URL) and copy it (we'll use it in a moment).

14. Now go back to the image prompt box that we opened earlier and paste in this new web address of your image. Then click on OK.

15. You will now be asked to give your image a short name. This makes it easier for screen readers to be able to provide a description of the image for visually impaired users. Once you've done this you can click on OK.

16. You should now see your original post with a link to your image added (don't worry if it looks messy it will look correct when it has been saved).
