This obituary was extracted in 2008 from the Church Magazine in September 1974 written by JA.

One of the great shocks we had to face recently was the sudden passing of Ida Marion Richardson on August 10th. There must be many who feel a great personal loss. Over the past forty years or so there can be very few children or families in the village who at some time or another have not been the object of her care and concern. The funeral service conducted by Canon Harris-Evans, our former vicar, on 15th August was some indication of the love we had for this wonderful servant of the Church and the community which indeed to her was the Church. Now her mortal remains rest in the garden of remembrance so near to the place and people she loved. Marion was involved in so many aspects of village life: The Women's Institute from whom there is a special tribute; the Mother's Union, as a founder member and past Vice-President of the Drama Society; The Good Neighbour Scheme as vital link; as Secretary of the Chiropody clinic which was held in her home; in the Church where she took such an active part in so many ways with sustained effort tin the choir, Church cleaning, flower arranging and goodness knows what! For a quarter of a century she served on the Church Council and for longer still she cared for countless children as Sunday School Superintendent, always forthright and fair but abounding in love which she showered upon them. Her last official duty was to organise the outing to Wicksteed Park only a few days before she passed on. She was in and out of homes wherever there was trouble of any kind or help needed. To all sorts of people in a wide area she meant so much. As local historian her knowledge of village affairs was unsurpassed and there is a great gap in the life of our village. Who will fill it? We must supply the answer. Her quiet hours were spent in the garden of her cottage which she loved.
She was truly a servant of the Lord and her concern was the care of others and her life of true service in so many ways has made it impact on our village. We thank God for her life and her love for us which was reflected in her actions. May she now rest in peace. There are many who will wish to commemorate such a life and to this end a memorial fund is being set up. It is hoped to place something in the church, perhaps in the Children's Corner, which will be of benefit to future generations, to mark the great benefits of her work over past years. Contributions to the fund will be gratefully received by Mr WE Squirrell who has agreed to act as Honorary Treasurer, or they will be passed on to him by the churchwardens or the editor.

In the same Magazine Eunice Gibbins wrote on behalf of the W.I saying that they had lost one of their longest serving members and she would be sadly missed especially for the keeping of the village records and WI scrapbook. Lydia Knott, Clerk to the Parish Council also wrote that the children would miss Marion for the great kindness that she showed them.

Comments in November 2008: It is not known what happened, what was raised or what memorial was chosen. Further enquiries will be made.
