PARISH CHURCH OF ST. MARY AND ST. JOHN

Untitled

This is a drawing of the Church in 1791 but it is thought that a Church existed on this site as early as the 11th century. The present Church displays the general shape and size of a late 12th/early 13th century structure.

This is a view of the Church we are now familiar with. It can be approached from Church Street through the Bronze Gates, as in the above drawing, or School Street through the Lytch Gate which was a gift in 1936 by the children of the Houston family in honour of their parents.

A view in 2003

The Parish Church Diary is published monthly in the Rothley Round-Up available in the Mercury News, Woodgate, or delivered to your home on request.

The above pen and ink drawing of the Church in 2003 is reproduced by kind permission of Abbeyfield Studios, Narborough. Postcards of this are available to buy in Rothley Post Office, Woodgate.
