HICKLING'S SPINNEY

This spinney is covered by a Group Tree Preservation Order. It is privately owned and there is no public access.

This spinney was last recorded in a field by field survey of Rothley Parish in July-September 1988 and was carried out by P.A.Evans.

It was a spinney of very dense mixed woodland with some large ash and oak trees. The following species were observed from the road:

Acer campestre (Field Maple)
Corylus avellana (Common Hazel)
Fagus sylvatica (Common Beech
Fraxinus excelsior (Common Ash)
Ilex aquifolium (Holly)
Larix sp. (Larch)
Pinus sylvestris (Scots Pine)
Prunus spinosa (Cherry)
Quercus robur (Common Oak)
Thelycrania sanguinea (Common Dogwood)
Tilia vulgaris (Common Lime)
Ground flora included Mercurialis perennis (Dogs Mercury)
