LONG SPINNEY

This spinney is covered by a Group Tree Preservation Order. It is privately owned and there is no public access.

The following is part of a field by field survey of Rothley Parish carried out July-September 1988 by P.A.Evans.

This spinney is similar in composition to Hicklings Spinney, which adjoins it, but the shrub layer is less dense. Some of the gardens on the south-east side of the spinney are unfenced and appear to run into it.

The following species were recorded:

Acer campestre (Field Maple)
Corylus avellana (Common Hazel)
Fagus sylvatica (Common Beech)
Fraxinus excelsior (Common Ash)
Ilex aquifolium (Holly)
Larix sp. (Larch)
Pinus sylvestris (Scots Pine)
Quercus robur (Common Oak)
Tilia Vulgaris (Common Lime)
Ulmus sp. (Elm sp.)
