VISA CARDS

Telephone scam. This is how it works:
Person calling says 'This is (name) and I am calling from the Security and Fraud Department of VISA. My badge number is 12460. Your card has been flagged for an unusual purchase pattern and I am calling to verify. This would be on your VISA card which was issued by (name of bank). Did you purchase a telemarketing device for £497.99? When you say 'no' this proceeds to further questions and you are invited to call the number listed on the back of your VISA card. However, you are then given a Control Number by the caller so that you may use this when calling your VISA Security Department but this is the IMPORTANT part.
You are asked for the three digit security number on the back of your card in order to verify that you actually do have the card.
This three digit number is needed by the caller in order to make purchases over the phone using your VISA card and this they immediately do as soon as they put the phone down.
It also tells you that they are in possession of most of your card details in the first place so you must then question where these were picked up.
If you are a victim of this scam then please inform the police as they are receiving calls daily from cardholders who have been conned by this scam.
