Scraptoft Parish Council has supported a proposal to create allotments on the land behind the David Wilson Estate and bordering Beeby Road.

To submit a proposal to Harborough District Council requires an Allotments Association and a costed plan.

If you are interested in joining the Allotments Association and helping to make this a reality, please come along to an open meeting on

Saturday 11 July, 10.00 - 12.00 am
in the Village Hall.

If you cannot make this meeting, please send and expression of interest and full contact details to scraptoftpc@googlemail.com

Housing Plans for Scraptoft

Earlier this year the Government published new housing figures for every district in the East Midlands. The adopted Regional Plan requires Harborough District to deliver 7000 dwellings in the period 2006 to 2026. We are told Eco-towns are not part of the current Regional Plan.

Harborough District Council (HDC) is preparing a Core Spatial Strategy (Local Plan) which will set out in broad terms where and how much development will take place throughout the district over the next 20 years. HDC is consulting on a draft Core Strategy and this is likely to have significant implications for Scraptoft which is part of an area designated the "Leicester Principle Urban Area" (PUA). This also includes Thurnby and Bushby and the area around the edge of Oadby. In addition to housing numbers, the document contains draft policies on transport, the environment, community infrastructure and a range of other issues. More »

The document invites responses on a number of "Alternative Options." The key issues affecting Scraptoft, Thurnby and Bushby are the number of houses to be allocated in the PUA with options from 560 to a massive 2,420 dwellings over the 20 year period! The Green Wedge between Scraptoft and the City and the Separation Area between Thurnby and Scraptoft are to be "Reviewed and justified." There is an option which asks should these areas continue to be protected?

To make a response visit the HDC Core Strategy page click Alternative Options and download the documentation and response forms at the bottom of the page. « Less
