Scraptoft Parish adjoins the city of Leicester to the west and has field boundaries to the east. It covers an area of 1,711 acres (2.67 square miles). Scraptoft Village is situated a mile north of the main A47 road between Leicester and Uppingham, with roads leading south to Thurnby and north to the villages of Keyham, Barkby and Beeby.

The Parish is served by the Parish Council, which holds full meetings (open to the public) on the first Wednesday of each month at 7 pm in the Village Hall on Scraptoft Rise. Contributions from the floor are welcome at these meetings.

The Scraptoft Parish Plan is in preparation, following a lengthy consultation process with parishioners. 197 questionnaires were returned (one third the original distribution).

Preliminary headline results include:
97% asked for a playground;
77% raised the issue of speed with 94% specifically mentioning Station Lane;
64% raised parking issues along Main Street.
