St John The Evangelist, Shenton

A marble memorial in commemoration of William Wollaston, who died in 1661 and his wife. Shenton Church was built in 1861 by Major Wollaston, his brother the Reverend John Wollaston and a few friends at the cost of £3000. In 1875, only 14 years later, extensive repair work became necessary at a cost of £1500! Photo copyright: Louise Smedley-Hampson.
