Hind Leys Model Railway Club

The club has been running for in excess of 20 years and meets at Hind Leys Community College, Shepshed.
We normally meet in term time on a Wednesday evening from 7.45pm in the Social Lounge which is behind the college bar.
We would welcome new members to the club.
In the past the club has had its own model railway exhibition at the college.
The clubs N gauge layout has attended various exhibitions including NEC Birmingham, Northampton, Sheffield, Derby, and Bochum in Germany.
At present we are constructing a '00' Gauge layout, with a view to exhibiting it. So we are looking for members to help finish the layout and operate it.
No previous experience is needed, but if you have all the better.
If you would like to know more, please contact Chris Walker, Club Secretary on 01509 504319.

Loughborough and District Amateur Radio Club

LADARC draws its members from the area around Loughborough and Shepshed. Meetings are held twice weekly on Monday and Tuesday evenings, from 19.30 until 21.30 at the Hind Leys Community College, Forest Street, Shepshed which is about 3 miles west of Loughborough.
On Monday evenings, members meet for an informal session of operating, building and repairing equipment, education, computing and the inevitable rag chewing.
Tuesday evenings are for formally organised sessions which include lectures on amateur radio subjects, lectures on other things of interest, visits, and in the summer months outside activities such as antenna testing sessions, direction finding exercises, picnics and special event stations.
The club station has available equipment and antennas for all bands from 160m through to 70cm.
With a number of members being connected to the Royal Air Force, the club is affiliated to RAFARS.
Foundation, Intermediate and Advanced licence courses are run on an as required basis and the club also hosts the RSGB registered examination centre for this area. Training and testing is also carried out for Scouts to enable them to obtain their electronics and Communications badges.
Visitors and new members are always welcome. To find us please refer to our website www.qsl.netg3ral for a map, which will bring you to our door.

Special Needs Umbrella Group

SNUG is for everyone working to meet the needs of people in Shep shed with a disability or special needs.

It aims to give members the chance:
- to share ideas, information and support
- to learn from each other
- to listen to invited speakers
- to provide information on local facilities
- to heighten awareness of problems faced by disabled people
To provide a support network for individuals and groups within the local community
The group meets 4 times a year to hear invited speakers. Activities of the group are organised through a small
co-ordinating committee which holds meetings 6 weekly (approx).
This committee also produces an Information booklet bi-annually containing details of Groups and Activities for people with a disability, and carers, in the Shep shed and Hathern areas, which is distributed widely in both areas.
