Not in My Neighbourhood Week provides an excellent opportunity for Neighbourhood Watch Schemes to take advantage of the week-long national focus placed on profiling those who work hard on a daily basis to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour and make our communities safer. Weeks of action such as this also help to increase public confidence in local agencies. We do hope that as many Neighbourhood Watch Schemes as possible are able to take part in the week which runs from 13th-17th October .

Suspects are targeting lone people at cash machines in Melton Road, Belgrave Road, Fosse Park and the city centre. The suspects watch the victims put in their PIN numbers into the machine. Once they have obtained the PIN number they distract the victim and take their card out of the machine. They then leave the victim thinking the machine has swallowed their card. Hi folks, my name is Andy and live in Moira, and work at Glenfield Hospital in the Cardioligy area. I have recently registered to do the Everest Base Camp trek in March 2009 to raise much needed funds for the British Heart Foundation - registered charity num 225971. This tough, exciting challenge begins by flying into Lukla set deep in the mountains of the Himalayas. We then trek through the homelands of the Sherpa people, among their villages and monasteries, with distant views of Everest and Ama Dablam. As we get closer to Everest Base Camp, we’ll summit Kala Patter for the awe-inspiring views of the Kumbu Glacier, Nuptse and the south west face of Everest itself. Then it’s onto Everest Base Camp, set at 5364m / 17598ft above sea level. If we’re lucky, we may even bump into a summit expedition group. Pending good health and availability, we will be joined by the famous mountaineer, Doug Scott, the first Brit to summit Everest on 25th September, 1975. More » This will be a truly spectacular trek that will not only fulfil one of my life long dreams, but also raise much needed funds for the BHF. This is the reason I am reaching out to you all via this website, to seek your support and sponsorship to help me achieve my fundraising goals and generate a great local news story. I would be enormously grateful if you would consider sponsoring me for this challenge, or donating a gift - in - kind that I might be able to use in a fundraising raffle. Heart and circulatory disease still kills more people than any other serious illness, so any support you can give me will help the BHF to fund more life - saving research. As a Staff Nurse working within Cardiology at the Glenfield Hospital, i have witnessed first hand the pain, distress and anxiety that both patient and family go through with this disease, along with experience of losing a loved one myself to heart problems. If anybody feels that they would like to sponsor me, please feel free to log onto my website at www.justgiving.com/andrewjanes, where you will be able to donate safely on line. If you have a gift to donate for a raffle, i will be happy to come and collect and i can be contacted on 01283 211094. You may also be interested to know that i will be holding a Table Top Sale on Sunday 7th September between 10am and 4pm to raise funds for the BHF. This will be held at 99 Ashby Road, Moira, nr Swadlincote. Please come along and support a worthwhile charity. Thank you all for taking your time to read this, and thanks for any donations that may come my way. « Less

In the last week we have received several reports from around the district of letters being received notifying householders that they have won some money in a foreign lottery, in most of the recent cases it was the Spanish lottery that was mentioned. These letters will mostly ask for some form of payment up front in order to release the winnings. This is a scam in almost every case.
