![]() Formerly known as Environ, Groundwork Leicester & Leicestershire is an independent charity and member of the national organisation, Groundwork UK. We provide information, advice and practical help to encourage individuals and organisations to take practical steps towards a more sustainable future. Our history began when Environ was created in 1993 by the merger of two independent charities: Leicester Ecology Trust and Leicester Environment City Trust. The origins of these organisations go back to 1983 when the City Wildlife Project was first established - so we have a long track record! We became a Groundwork Trust in April 2006 and changed our name to Groundwork Leicester & Leicestershire. Our workforce of over 40 professional staff is supplemented by committed volunteers, trainees and work placements. We pursue an ethos of partnership in all that we do, engaging with government bodies, businesses and local communities to involve everyone in action for the future.
