Everyone has a role to play in the Big Switch Off Campaign

Take part in competitions to win some exciting prizes!

The Big Switch Off is a partnership of local authorities in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland promoting energy efficiency campaign running for a week from 12th – 18th October 2009. The innovative week-long campaign encourages everyone in three authority areas to switch off unnecessary electrical equipment and lighting to save energy, money and cut carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. Over £1.8 billion worth of energy is wasted by leaving appliances on standby at work and home in the UK. The Big Switch Off campaign aims to address this and encourage local organisations and households to reduce their energy use and costs. The residents in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland could potentially save over £13million by switching off appliances on standby!

To do their bit residents, schools, colleges and universities, community and faith groups are invited to get involved in various competitions. There are competitions to save energy, design a short-film, design a certificates with some tempting prizes for everyone – for further information please visit www.leics.gov.uk/bsocompetitions

To make a difference at your home, school or work, the Big Switch Off partnership will provide free resources from the website. During the Big Switch Off week, we will release daily energy saving tips on different themes. We are also planning to organise some outreach events to spread the message of the campaign, please keep your eyes on the website for further details. Come to St Peter's Church Hall, Swepstone, on Wednesday 15 July 2009 between 10.30 and 12.00 noon. It is our popular monthly social event, where home made cakes and coffee will be served. There are plenty of people to chat with, so don't stay home alone. There will also be a small Bring and Buy Table. Admission £1.00 to include refreshments.

Join our Gourmet Gathering at 12.30 pm on Sunday 26 July in the stunning garden belonging to two of our parishioners. Locally sourced meat, (once on the trotter/hoof in the adjacent fields) will be cooked to perfection by a skilled local butcher. There will be a choice of roast pork and stuffing, beefburgers or a vegetarian option, served with a selection of salads. This will be followed by a choice of desserts, one of which will be Strawberry Pavlova. Please note that everything will be home made – nothing will come out of catering packs. A glass of wine or a soft drink is included in the incredible ticket price of £7.00 per adult, £3.50 per child. There is also a family ticket available which costs £17.50. Ticket prices will be cheaper if booked in advance. (On the day it will be £7.50 adults, £4.00 child.) You will need to supply your own garden chair or picnic blanket and any further drinks that you require. To book, please phone Brenda (270 367) or Tricia (270 126). All proceeds to the church.
