New illuminations for Church BelfryThe long fingers of bare branches lash across the top of this image of the newly illuminated West and South End of St Peter's Church. In the distance, the windows of Church Farm and Manor Farm look warm and comforting to a photographer who has been walking alone round a dark, deserted cemetery in biting sleet for an hour! (Photo copyright: 1 December 2008: Louise Smedley-Hampson.) Last year, Brian Moseley designed and built a single new star. Brian paid for the wood and Paul Butler paid for the lights; Tim Green helped Paul attach the lights. This year the Parish Council kindly made funds available to engineer another three, based on the initial model. Chris Robinson and Ian Brown, helped by their sons, Nicholas and Ben, did most of the building work. Many long evenings were spent in a freezing cold garage, assembling all the pieces. On 29 November, a number of local men joined Chris and Ian to hang the stars from the belfry, connect the electrical wiring and set up the timers: Paul Butler, Tim Green, Brian Moseley, Bob Anderson, Roger Stapley, Richard Davey and Phil Lunn. Grateful and appreciative thanks go to everyone involved. The stars symbolically radiate Christian love and can be enjoyed by everyone in both villages. Last Updated Wed, 28 Sep, 2005. |
