Born in Swepstone in 1889, he was the youngest son of Joseph and Sarah Bentley. Worked as a farm boy after leaving Swepstone School. In 1915, he became a miner at Measham Colliery. The Coalville Times has a 'Back in Time' column. For Armistice Day 11 11 11, Henry Everett sent in a photograph of his uncle, Walter Bentley, requesting information about him. Walter's name is on Swepstone's War Memorial. When 'The Coalville Times' printed the answer the following week, Walter was listed as Walter Berkley and the information came directly from this site, without crediting it. Cheeky!
